Snorkeling at
Hideaways Beach

At the base of the cliff near the Pali Ke Kua Condos in Princeville are lovely sandy beaches called Hideaways (actually two beaches connected by a rocky point) set inside a reef, where you can watch the sun sparkle on the waves or meditate in near solitude. It is also a perfect spot for snorkeling.

The only beach on the North Shore that you can snorkel closely to the turtles due to shallow water space between massive coral reef and the surface (2 feet).  It is hard to swim beyond the reef to follow the turtles feeding route but you will be greatly rewarded when encountering a school of giant turtles.  Please do not walk or stand on the reef to avoid coral damage.

Makua Beach, popularly known as Tunnels Beach, has a large lagoon perfect for swimming and snorkeling because it is protected by two reefs, the outer reef favored by surfers for perfect arcs, and the inner reef filled with cavities and crevices for snorkelers to explore for fish and sea life.
